Kendrick Lamar features dark skinned model in music video

Kendrick Lamar did an interview while shooting his music video “Poetic Justice” where he talks about how they cast the lead model. Lamar said that the darker tone model, Brittany Sky was chosen over a lighter one because you don’t see different tones in videos. While Lamar was vocal about his love for all skin tones, he made sure to point out that darker women should be represented more. Every skin type is beautiful. Brittany Sky, she’s stunning. I love that Kendrick Lamar spoke openly about what is considered “attractive”…

Critics demand donation from Amazon for selling shirts that promote abuse

This bit of news is repulsive. Can you imagine walking down the street and seeing someone where a shirt that said, “Keep calm and rape them?” or “Keep calm and hit her?” That could have happened – when Amazon’s UK website offered shirts promoting rape and violence against women. In 2012 the NFL changed one of its rules to allow gender equality. Of the 240 people trying out for the NFL next month one name on the list stands out. This is a poem by (F)Emma and it brought tears to my eyes. As someone who dealt with horrible body image in the past, I loved this letter that (F)Emma wrote to her body. It’s a beautiful piece about the relationships we have with our bodies and how we are so disconnected from them, mistreating them. Absolutely amazing. I’m sure many of you could relate and…

A big “screw you” to body image ideals

This is a great article written by Nicole Woszczyna for Feminspire. I completely agree with Nicole…while I’m happy to see that curvier women are being embraced more, we cannot insult less curvy women – this completely defeats any progress. It is going from one ideal to another…and who is to say what is “ideal?” Beauty is a matter of opinion…and if we are all allowed to have different opinions, why aren’t we all allowed to have different bodies? The simultaneous rise of supermodel stardom and widespread media influence has, in…
